IMS Learning Design

IMS-LD is the most recent among IMS-Specifications and is regarded as a major extension being an integration-layer for current e-Learning-Standards (eg. SCORM).


Central to the conceptual approach is the focus on learning activities and no longer on learning contents.

For the first time comprehensive learning scenarios can be specified, and that including roles, formation of groups, learning objectives, integration of conventional media, environment variables etc.

Through IMS-LD course structures may be defined by XML and comprehensively documented, embedding methodically elaborate existing e-learning-content as well as content that still needs to be produced.

As arbitrary learning content and media are accompanied by action instructions and help functions ("services"), eventually integration of didactical unprocessed media (eg. technical documentations, generally accessible web-contents etc.) is possible.
